Hi Angels

angel wings

I'm Nat Taylor

Life can throw us unexpected chaos at times right! and my life has been no different. I had a baby at 16, a failed marriage, I've suffered homelessness and being diagnosed with ADHD at 48! But I'd like to say I'm just an ordinary girl trying to balance the roles of being a wife, mum to both humans and a fur baby, and rocking it as a beauty therapist and educator!

My Story...

Looking back, it's almost surreal to think how my journey unfolded. Growing up, I was always experimenting with make-up and different hair colours and was always creating intricate hairstyles on my sisters (much to their annoyance!),so it was probably inevitable that I would go on to work in the beauty industry.

But life had a different script for me. Leaving school at 16 without any qualifications wasn't because I lacked intelligence, but simply because I couldn't stand the confines of a classroom. At 16, I became a mum, with no money and nowhere to call home. It seemed like every relationship I ventured into was marred by violence and heartbreak.

Juggling countless jobs—from dawn till dusk at a supermarket, to cleaning houses and even hosting Ann Summers parties—was my reality for years. But amidst the chaos, I knew I wanted to make something of myself. So I trained to be a prison officer and then went on to be an education welfare officer, but I wasn't truly happy and after a horrendous divorce, in a now-or-never moment I decided to rewrite my story.

How Rowan Retreat Evolved

Retraining as a beauty therapist wasn't just a career move; it was a leap of faith towards something I had always been passionate about: well-being and caring for others. The corporate salon scene wasn't for me, I tried working in a salon but, I craved warmth and authenticity, not the sterile environment and gossip that seemed to permeate every corner.

So, armed with just £50, I left my salon job and embarked on a new adventure. Leaving behind the security my salon job was undoubtedly daunting, but I knew deep down that it was time to take a leap of faith. As I set out on my own, armed with nothing but my trusty little wax pot, I started hosting small waxing parties for friends. Little did I know that this humble beginning would blossom into something beautiful.

The road wasn't smooth, not by a long shot. I poured my heart and soul into my work as a mobile therapist, and eventually, I built something I could be proud of. But then came a turning point: after an operation, I simply couldn't keep up with the demands of lugging my kit around, so I transformed a corner of my home into a cosy salon. Life seemed to fall into place until everything took a sharp turn.

Out of nowhere, my 17-year-old daughter fell seriously ill. It was a gut-wrenching blow, one that forced me to make some tough decisions. I had to close down my business and uproot our lives to a new area, starting from scratch all over again, with my daughter's well-being as my top priority. Being her full-time caregiver became my new reality, and while it was challenging, it was also the most important role I've ever taken on. We found our footing in our new surroundings, and once again, I ventured into rebuilding my business. But just as things started to pick up momentum, COVID-19 swept in, shutting everything down once more! It's been a rollercoaster of emotions, filled with setbacks and resilience. Yet, through it all, I've learned that life's challenges may knock us down, but they also teach us how strong and resilient we truly are!

Fast forward to today, and I'm humbled to have garnered a loyal following in the beauty world. With over 15 years of experience under my belt, I've built Rowan Retreat—a sanctuary of serenity and self-care.

Despite relocating, my clients remain steadfast, some traveling over 40 miles for an eyebrow wax! On re-locating, I opened a treatment room in my house. With my house being called Rowan House, Rowan Retreat was born! But within a year, this little treatment room was quick to be outgrown and I now do all treatments and training in a beautiful cabin in my garden.

I have won many awards in my beauty career, but beyond the accolades and awards, what truly sets Rowan Retreat apart is our ethos. At Rowan Retreat, beauty isn't about conforming to narrow standards; it's about embracing individuality and self-expression. Here, everyone is welcomed with open arms, free from judgment or prejudice.

My mission is simple: to help you discover the beauty that's already within you, So, whether you're a newcomer looking for a beauty therapist to pamper you, someone who wants to start in the beauty therapy world or you are an established therapist wanting to improve your skills, I can't wait to embark on this journey of self-discovery and pampering together.
